Data Security

Lifestream is your safe, secure, one-stop safety app for connection and 24/7 assistance. We’ve built Lifestream with your safety and privacy in mind. We take multiple measures to ensure your family and information are safe using our app, since we understand having concerns around your family, particularly children, navigating online platforms. Security is our priority, so our safety measures include the following:

  • Secure Storage – Your personal data is stored using encrypted, credible and premium industry standard cloud storage. Our response centre operators only access your data in an emergency situation so they can provide you with timely and tailored support.
  • In-app Safety – We have anti-bot mechanisms inbuilt in our app design to guard against cyber attacks, scammers or illegitimate users. This is why we ask for your phone number and email address upon registration, so that we can monitor for illegitimate users through an embedded two factor authentication process. A phone number and/or email address can only be used once for a single Lifestream account to guard against spam users too.
  • User Controls – Our app users decide what data they share and when. You have exclusive control over when location services are enabled in-app, which groups you join, and who is allowed to connect with you and see your location. You maintain primary rights over your data. So, features like WatchMe that employ location sharing technology allow you to choose when you use location sharing features, for how long, and in what sorts of circumstances.
  • Security Policies – We have robust and professionally informed data security policies which ensure our in-house practices are consistently monitored and maintained to a high quality standard.
  • Minors’ Access – As per our Terms of Use and Service, we require minors to seek parental and guardian consent for users aged 15 and under seeking to use our app, so that parents are informed and comfortable with their child’s online activity.
  • Confidentiality – Any sensitive or medical information that is communicated to our emergency operators is strictly private and confidential. Similarly, your data never leaves our encrypted cloud-based storage and is never sold for marketing or to third parties.
  • Location Services – Only your current or last known location is temporarily stored, but we will never store or track your location history, unless you’ve told us you’re in an emergency situation.

Any information we collect, record and store are only there to help keep you safe so that Lifestream can use your information to help you during an emergency. To use our app, it is compulsory to enter your name, email address, and phone number. We ask for your name, email address and phone number so that we can identify you for the provision of tailored, on-call emergency services, so that in an emergency situation we can ensure you receive optimum care and support. We can only share information with your nominated emergency contacts for facilitating your rescue or providing you assistance in an emergency situation.

Only your current or last known location is temporarily stored, but we will never store or track your location history, unless you’ve told us you’re in an emergency situation.

We want to assure you that our app’s location services operate as a tool for the provision of emergency services and for your connectivity with trusted family and friends. When using our app, only when you let us know you’re in an emergency situation (such as by activating the WatchMe feature or calling our emergency operators) is your location monitored so that our response centre can quickly and efficiently provide you with the care you need, when and where you need it. Users are able to choose not to share their location at any time with either their personal groups or the response centre too.

Our location services allow for families to, for example,  make sure their children are safe walking home from school, or for a school to know their students are accounted for on a school excursion. Remember, we do not record or store your location history unless you have been in an emergency situation.

You can rest assured your data is privately contained in our encrypted cloud-based storage servers, and we do not distribute any of your data for external marketing or research purposes, or to any third parties other than that required for the provision of emergency response centre services which you consented to.

Lifestream takes the Australian Privacy Principles seriously. We do not disclose, use or share data with any third parties without your express permission and/or as required to ensure your safety during an emergency. Unless we believe you are at risk, we do not share your information with authorities without legal documentation, such as a warrant.

Our Lifestream mobile-app is compatible with any Android or Apple mobile device and is available on the Google Play or App Store. Lifestream does not need to be integrated with any other IT system, it just requires an internet connection for best service delivery.

Your data never leaves our encrypted, secure domain storage. We respect our users’ privacy, so your data is never sold for marketing or third party access. We follow the highest industry standards along with all leading organisations. We use reputable and reliable cloud-based storage for your data, which is encrypted at-rest and in-transit in Australian servers. Our asymmetric key encryption software is stored in highly secure, multi-tiered storage for system management.

You control what data you share. Our app users decide how much information to share and when, with flexibility prioritised in our design.

Your user experience  is important to us, so you have control to decide what data you share and when, with flexibility prioritised in our design. To ensure the utmost privacy and security while using our app, we recommend the following practices:

  1. Be selective with group invitations: Only accept invitations to groups that you recognize and trust. This will help you maintain a secure and trustworthy network within the app.
  2. Be mindful of location sharing: When sharing your location, exercise caution and ensure that you are sharing it with individuals or groups you trust explicitly. Be conscious of who has access to your location information and consider adjusting your settings accordingly.
  3. Utilise communication features appropriately: Our app provides various communication features, such as chat. We encourage you to use these features responsibly and in a manner consistent with respectful and appropriate communication.

By following these guidelines, you can enhance your privacy and security while making the most of our app’s features.
